A 29 year old man has admitted robbing a dental nurse as she opened up a surgery in Plymouth.

The nurse was opening up Mead Dental Practice on January 25th when David Dugdale entered the premises and took her phone, purse and other possessions from her handbag.

Dugdale admitted burglary at court in Plymouth last Friday. Prosecutor Alistair Verheijen said that Dugdale had a history of dishonesty and told the court that he had entered the surgery early in the morning of January 25th and ransacked the nurse’s bag while she was in another room. The stolen possessions were later discovered in the kitchen of another building.

Nick Lewin, representing Dugdale, from Hermitage Road, Mutley, said that he had been doing well after being released from prison, however, the death of a friend had been very difficult and promoted him to take valium, which affected his judgement. Dugdale admitted the charge and said that he had stopped taking drugs and was eager to get his life back on track.

Dugdale was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail, minus four days in remand. Philip Mott QC told Dugdale that his actions represented a “mean offence.”
