Following last night’s Channel 4 Dispatches documentary, which suggested that many patients are being overcharged for NHS dental care, the British Dental Health Foundation is urging worried patients to contact the free Dental Helpline for advice.

The Dental Helpline is run by the British Dental Health Foundation and representatives from the foundation are worried that people will be put off NHS dental care after watching the television documentary. Chief Executive of the BDHF, Dr Nigel Carter said that many people may be confused about what they can expect from their dentist and there is a also a great deal of confusion surrounding NHS dental charges. Dr Carter is eager for people to contact the helpline if they have questions or concerns, rather than avoiding going to a dentist. It is important to attend regular check-ups to reduce the risk of dental health problems, which will get worse if they are not treated.

The Dental Helpline offers free, impartial advice and Dr Carter is hoping that people get in touch so that their issues can be resolved. Carter believes that it is very important that people have a trusting relationship with their dentist and he is worried that the programme may have affected the public perception of dentists.
