Dental Experts Urge Caution Over the Festive Period

Sample News Big

Dental experts have sent a message urging people to look after their teeth and gums this Christmas.

Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, said that it is extremely important to keep an eye on oral health over the festive period, as most people like to indulge in sweet treats, fizzy drinks, alcohol and rich foods.

Dr Carter said it was important to think about your teeth and gums, as eating sugary foods and drinking fizzy and sugary drinks causes the enamel to become weakened for at least an hour after eating, which means grazing throughout the day causes the teeth to be constantly under attack.

Dentists are eager for people to have fun this Christmas but to also be aware of the damage that can be done as a result of eating and drinking constantly. If you are planning to indulge in some festive treats, try to stick to mealtimes and drink water and milk to try and neutralise the acids, which attack the enamel surfaces of the teeth.
