Dental communications company, FMC, has raised more than £50,000 for Dentaid.

Co-founder, Ken Finlayson and his colleague, Tim Molony, recently completed a gruelling hike, scaling the dizzy heights of Mount Kilimanjaro to fund a new mobile dental unit. Ken wanted to take on the challenge in memory of his wife, Kim, who lost her life at the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Ken and Tim reached the peak at over 20,000 feet, braving freezing temperatures and extreme weather conditions along the way. So far, the intrepid duo has raised over £53,000 for Dentaid and donations are still flooding in.

Talking about the adventure, Ken said that he was incredibly proud to complete the challenge. Ken and Tim have received amazing support from friends, family, colleagues and the wider dental community and everyone involved is thrilled with the total.

The most important reason for taking on Kilimanjaro for Ken was to raise money for a new mobile dental clinic in memory of his late wife, Kim. Ken said that he is most proud of delivering a “lasting memorial to a wonderful woman whose legacy will tangibly live on across the UK through the new mobile clinic.”

Dentaid is involved in projects at home in the UK and abroad. As well as providing training, dental care and supplies for communities overseas, the charity has also been helping to plug gaps in NHS provision during the pandemic. Recently, Dentaid volunteers staffed mobile clinics in King’s Lynn and Leiston to provide care for patients who couldn’t get dental appointments.
