A New Jersey dental college has been awarded funding to help it serve more needy children.
HSC-Baylor College of Dentistry (HSC), Parsippany, has received a grant from Smiles Across America (SAA), a scheme which aids thousands of children from underserved communities across the US.
Thanks to this program, run by Oral Health America (OHA), HSC will now be able to provide double the amount of sealants to underserved children in Dallas.
This was all made possible when Trident Gum invested $1.5million in 2008 to expand the OHA.
Beth Truett, president and CEO of OHA, said that her organization was pleased to welcome HSC into its family of dental care providers and added that such partnerships were important as they to help raise awareness about oral health and provide needy people with care.
The most common chronic child disease in the US is currently Tooth decay, affecting almost 50 per cent of second graders and around 80 per cent of 17-year-olds.
If left untreated tooth decay, and diseases caused by it, can harm a child’s health, developments and achievements.
Every year year, around 51 million school hours are lost thanks to tooth decay related issues.
Lesya Lysyj, executive vice president of marketing for Cadbury North America, said that Trident Gum was long-term a pioneer of oral health and claimed that extensive testing had showed that chewers of Trident had far fewer cavities.
He added that Trident was continuing in its attempts to raise awareness about oral health in children by supporting the Smiles Across America scheme.
