Dental clinic’s waiting list struggles

Sample News Big

A non-profit Massachusetts dental practice has been struggling to treat the amount of patients that need its services.

The VINA Community Dental Center, Brighton, has announced that it will not be treating any more patients until it can reduce its waiting lists.

The clinic, which has around 45 volunteer dentists and specialists, has treated around 750 patients since it opened in September 2008 and has more than 200 others awaiting care.

Christine Love, VINA’s funding chairwoman, said that the clinic couldn’t survive on volunteers alone and claimed that more aid was needed so that treatment could provided to patients that are in real need.

The clinic took on 80 new patients in November 2009 and it is now expected that it will not enrol anymore until March 2010 – meaning dozens of people will have to cope with serious oral health problems.

It offers patients dental insurance from $15 per visit and already provides many people with constant access to dental care.
