Dental Bills Soar In London

New figures suggest a significant increase in the cost of private dental care in London.

Figures suggest that patients in North London have experienced a 20 per cent increase in the cost of a dental check-up over the course of the last 12 months, while those wanting a new crown in Central London can now expect to pay 14 per cent more than last year.

Price increases were not significant across the whole of London; patients in the EC postcode region only experienced a 4 per cent increase in the cost of a check-up and the cost of a dental bridge was around 16 per cent lower than costs in Central London.

The Evening Standard reports that fees are highest in Central London; figures from WhatClinic.com showed an increase of more than 50 per cent in North West London, up to 75 per cent in Central London and 65 per cent in West London. On average, a trip to the dentist cost 7 per cent more this year than last year.

The figures have been released shortly after the Office of Fair Trading called for changes in the dental system after dentists were accused of misleading patients into paying for private dental treatment in cases where treatments were available on the NHS for a fraction of the price.
