Dental associations write to leaders

Sample News Big

Dental and workers associations have sent a letter to Leaders of the House and Senate asking them to eliminate or significantly reduce excise tax on health benefits.

The presidents of the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Academy of General Dentistry, along with 11 other groups, believe these taxes could adversely affect important health reform goals.

Dr Ron Tankersley, ADA President, said that provision was the opposite to reform and may compel numerous employers to get rid of critical dental and medical cover schemes to avoid being taxed.

He said these taxes would dismantle the vital preventive primary care that the US needs.

The associations are concerned that any cuts to crucial benefits will reduce access to essential care.

James Klein, American Benefits Council president, claimed that several modifications were needed to improve health reform plans, including not taxing important dental, vision and other supplemental benefits.

Research Director for Communications Workers of America, Louise Novotny, called excise tax punitive and unfair for the millions of Americans that come from low or middle-income families.
