Dentaid visited Suffolk to host two drop-in dental clinics recently.

Volunteers from the charity visited Haverhill and Sudbury on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd February as part of a scheme to plug gaps in NHS dental services. Teams treated around a hundred patients over the two days.

During the sessions, the team treated 50 patients in each location. The clinics were designed to benefit local people who needed urgent treatment for pain and couldn’t get a dental appointment. This was the fifth time Dentaid has visited the county.

Julie Guyon, from Long Melford, was one of the many people who arrived at St Gregory’s Church hoping to get help. Julie started to suffer from severe dental pain three months ago due to a broken tooth and an abscess. She has been taking painkillers four times a day. Julie was prepared to pay to see a private dentist but she couldn’t get an appointment until July. When she contacted NHS 111, she was told about the Dentaid clinics and managed to get an appointment at the Sudbury clinic, where she was able to get an X-ray and hoped to have the tooth removed.

Gary Shaw and Shelley Radford also received treatment at the mobile clinic in Sudbury. They described the service as “brilliant” and “amazing.”
