Dentaid is hosting two free dental clinics in Suffolk this week.

The charity is running emergency dental clinics in Sudbury and Haverhill to provide treatment for patients who don’t have a dentist. The mobile unit will be stationed outside St Mary’s Church in Haverhill on Thursday February 2nd before visiting St Gregory’s Church on Friday February 3rd. Appointments will be available between 10am and 4pm.

The clinic is targeting local people who don’t currently have a dentist and are experiencing severe pain. Appointments will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The team is expecting a big crowd so anyone who is interested is advised to arrive early.

The visits will be the fifth for Dentaid, which has teamed up with local councillors to try to improve access to dental care and plug gaps in NHS provision in the county. Dentaid CEO, Andy Evans, said that volunteers are looking forward to visiting Suffolk again and helping to ease pain. The demand for treatment has been very high during previous visits and the team is anticipating a large turnout.

Green Party councillor, Jessie Carter, is part of a group of councillors involved in organising the Dentaid clinics, which have been funded by grants from town councils. She said that local people are really struggling to get dental appointments, with many travelling long distances to see a dentist or hopping from one pharmacy to another to find DIY solutions. The Dentaid clinics won’t solve the problem, but they do provide urgent relief for patients who have been struggling with pain for a long time.
