Dentaid Appeals for More Volunteers to Facilitate Expansion Plans

Dentaid, a charity providing dental care and equipment all over the world to help those in need, is appealing for more volunteers to join the team to cope with rising demand. The charity is looking for people with experience in metal work, reconstruction and restoration, engineering, electronics and dental technology to join the team based in Landford.

The charity has expanded in recent months and new volunteers are needed to cope with the rising demand for equipment and supplies. Recently, the charity has helped relief efforts in Calais in addition to organising projects in remote communities in African and Asian countries.

The volunteers will work under the supervision of the workshop manager to restore and repair old or damaged equipment, recondition donations and create Dentaid dental boxes, which are temporary structures containing all the essentials of a traditional dental surgery. These enable dentists to work almost anywhere. Dentaid is also looking to recruit somebody with skills in sewing and upholstery to create chair covers and lightweight rucksacks to make it easier and cheaper for volunteer dental professionals to travel with luggage.

Stuart Bassham, workshop manager, said it’s already an exciting time for Dentaid, with projects all over the world and new innovations such as the Dentaid dental box making a difference in far-flung destinations. As the charity reaches its 20th anniversary, the future is looking very positive and new volunteers would help to enable the charity to continue its expansion and reach out to more and more people in need.
