Delta Dental Donates Thousands to Dental Programme

Delta Dental of Wisconsin has donated $241,000 to a children’s dental health programme.

The Seal-a-Smile programme is a partnership between public health services and private companies, which provides grants for schools to offer sealant programmes for children.

Delta Dental has supported the programme for some time and this has allowed the scheme to expand, with more than 16,000 children receiving treatment in 2010, an increase of 14,000 children since 2000.

The Seal-a-Smile programme is managed by the Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin and the scheme operates in 51 counties across the state.

Dennis Peterson, executive vice president of Delta Dental, said that the programme makes perfect sense because the cost of a sealant is just $16, compared to the cost of treating a cavity which can be up to $2,000. The money donated by Delta Dental will be used to buy dental equipment and expand the scheme to provide treatments for children in other counties.
