Delight for Campaigners as Dental Surgery is Saved

Sample News Big

Campaigners celebrated yesterday after coming out on top after an 18 month fight to prevent the closure of a dental practice.

Staff at Mersea Road Dental Surgery, Colchester, were told they would have to stop providing NHS treatment as there was plenty of capacity at other nearby practices.

Dave Harris, a councillor from Colchester, devised a petition to keep the surgery open, as it would be unable to remain standing without NHS patients.

The surgery is run by Prettygate Dental and has 1,200 patients. 347 people signed the petition online as well as patients in their hundreds at the surgery.

Via email, Mr Harris was told that NHS England was to withdraw the objection and had decided to stay with Prettygate Dental Mersea Road Surgery.

The surgery had also appealed the proposal, but Mr Harris believes NHS England took patients’ views into account and that is why the objection was withdrawn.

Patients living in the Willows, Holt Drive, Friday Wood Green, Lethe Grove, Birch Glen and Monkwick could have been affected by the closure.

Director of the surgery, Yogesh Dasour, gives thanks to everyone who supported the practice along with Dave Harris, the faithful patients and the devoted dental team.
