Delhi government launches ambulance for dental emergencies

The Delhi government is set to launch a brand new ambulance, which will provide care for patients who have suffered dental trauma.

The new ambulance will be geared up to provide 24 hour emergency medical and dental care; the state of art vehicle will be equipped with lifesaving equipment, including a ventilation machines and a defibrillator, as well as equipment to carry out oral and maxillofacial surgery. The ambulance is also equipped with GPS and radio system.

Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, announced the launch of the ambulance at a 5 day health summit at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences; the institute is the first dental school to have an ambulance.

Diskhit also took the opportunity to encourage schools to introduce programmes to teach children about oral health and oral hygiene amidst fears that oral health problems are on the increase amongst young children. According to recent figures, over 80 percent of the population in Delhi suffer from oral health problems.
