Cubs Get a Lesson in Oral Health

Sample News Big

First Bookham Oak Pack Cubs were given an important lesson in oral health by dental nurse, Trudie Dawson last week.

The cubs were invited to attend an informal and fun educational session about issues related to oral health, including healthy eating, dental check-ups and oral hygiene to help instil good habits and warn the boys what might happen if they eat sugary treats on a regular basis and go to bed without brushing their teeth. Pictures of rotten, dirty teeth were met with gasps, as Trudie explained the effects sugar has on the teeth.

Trudies said that the sessions were very important, as children today are bombarded with all kinds of sugary foods and fizzy drinks, which are contributing to an increase in the prevalence of decay and gum disease among young children.

Trudie was able to talk to the boys about brushing properly and offered tips for healthy snacking between meals. She also talked to the cubs about the importance of having regular dental check-ups.
