County Tyrone community left shocked by dentist’s death

A local community in County Tyrone has been left in shock following the death of a much-loved dentist.

Denis Kelly, from Springfield, died on Monday February 13th following a car crash in January. He was 62 years old.

Mr Kelly, the owner of Aughnacloy Dental Practice in Moore Street, Aughnacloy, was involved in a collision on Knockmany Road in Augher on January 27th. The crash involved an Audi Q5 and a lorry. Emergency crews arrived on scene shortly after the incident and Mr Kelly was taken to hospital in Belfast. Sadly, the popular dentist passed away on February 13th.

Police are appealing for information about the collision, which occurred at 8.40am. Officers have asked anyone who was in the area who might have seen what happened or fellow drivers who have dashcam footage to come forward.

Denis was a highly respected dentist but he was also an integral member of the Derrygonnelly community. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Derrygonnelly Harps GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) and helped the club immensely, providing mouthguards for the players when they became compulsory. The club has paid tribute to Denis on Facebook.

Away from his day job, which he loved, Denis was passionate about mucking in on the family farm and he was also a keen singer.

Following the news of Denis’ death, tributes and well wishes have poured in from patients, friends and colleagues. Many have expressed their shock and deep sadness at his passing.
