A long-established dental practice in County Durham has a new owner.

First-time buyer, Dr Kenny Ip, has taken the reins at Stoney Field Dental Practice. Dr Ip bought the business, which has been running for over 60 years, from Dr Sebastian Pearey. Dr Pearey purchased the practice in 2015.

Stoney Field Dental Practice, which is located in Stanley, has provided dental care for residents for more than six decades and it is an integral part of the local community. Dr Ip is looking forward to getting to know patients and taking the business forward. He plans to modernise the surgery, rebrand and add more services, including dental implants and composite bonding. He will be partnering with his sister, who is a pharmacist.

Dr Ip has 12 years of experience in working within NHS and private dentistry, and for the last six years, he has also worked as a dental education supervisor.

Dr Pearey explained that he had decided to sell to “pursue a career outside of wet-fingered dentistry” and added that he was pleased to be handing over control of the business to Kenny. He wished him well and thanked the staff and patients for making the practice “a lovely place to work.”

The acquisition was overseen by Christie & Co. Olivia Allison, senior business agent for dental at Christie & Co, described the business as a “fantastic family-run practice with so much potential.” She wished both dentists luck for the future and said that it was an honour to help Kenny purchase his first practice.
