Council coughs-up for burnt teeth

Sample News Big

Kingston council has had to spend £320,000 reducing mercury emissions from the local crematorium.

The emissions are created when people with fillings are cremated.

Under new government rules the council has to halve its mercury emissions by 2012, as mercury can enter the food chain and cause health problems.

If they fail to halve the emissions the crematorium may be closed.

Metal objects, which have been left after cremations, such as false hips are often sold-off to raise funds for charities, with the family’s consent.
