Cottingham Dentist Taking On Trek To Raise Money For Teenagers With Cancer

A dentist from Cottingham, East Yorkshire, is trekking to raise money for teenagers affected by cancer.

Chris Branfield will be joined by friends to complete a 170 mile coast-to-coast challenge from Morecambe to Bridlington to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Unit at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham and the trust’s unit in Leeds.

During the challenge, three members will cycle the route, one team member will run 10 miles per day and the other two members will complete the challenge as support drivers.

The team decided to raise money for the charity after one of the cyclist’s sons was diagnosed with leukaemia; David Calvert’s son Scott, aged 16, was diagnosed with leukaemia in June last year and has been receiving treatment at the Leeds unit. David said that he wanted to take on the coast-to-coast challenge to give something back to the treatment unit and the Teenage Cancer Trust, which has supported the whole family during a very difficult time.

The team will set off from Morecambe on the 7th September and they are planning to reach Bridlington on the 9th September; they will then head for Beverly Leisure Centre to meet up with family members and collect donations.

Chris, who is the owner and principal dentist at Castle Park Dental Care, said that he is looking forward to supporting a wonderful cause.
