Following research that 27 per cent of people believe having cosmetic dental work done will improve the quality of their life, the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) claims it can improve an individual’s self confidence.

According to the organisation, although other things matter, it is improving individual’s teeth which can really make a difference when having a makeover.

Tif Qureshi, public relations director for the BACD, said that people have cosmetic dental treatment to make themselves feel better, perhaps for a job interview or following a divorce.

"When people smile they do feel good about themselves and it improves their self esteem. So that is primarily the reason why people are having it done," he explained.

Mr Qureshi went on to say that Christmas was the most popular time of year for having treatment.

Research by the BACD and Mintel found that women believe a nice smile is a sign of a warm personality and that men think people with anice smile will be more successful.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18383777-ADNFCR
