Cop gets £2k dental bill after attack

A police woman recieved a broken nose and a fractured tooth after being attacked in a police station.
 
PC Denise Ellen Roskell was set upon by a woman who been taken into custody at Ripley police station for drunk and disorderly behaviour.
 
Gemma Barry kneed the cop in face during an unprovoked at attack when drunk.
 
Magistrates were told that Barry had thrown items on the floor and when PC Roskell bent pick them up she was kneed in the face by the 21-year-old.
 
Reports suggest that PC Roskell needed five injections to her nose and had to pay £2,000 to get her fractured tooth treated.
 
The cop, who wrote a five-page victim statement, claimed she feared to return to the job she had loved because of the attack. 
 
Barry pleaded guilty to the charge of actual bodily harm at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court and will be sentenced on 3 December 2009 at Derby Crown Court. 
 
Prosecuting lawyer, Syma Akhtar, said Barry was in custody on 24 June 2009 and was annoyed at the police, acting abusively and aggressively.
 
“Two officers then restrained her and told her she was going to be put in a cell until she was fit to be interviewed. The defendant was annoyed and started banging her head against the counter. She then threw items on the floor and starting shouting and swearing at the officers,” said Ms Akhtar.
 
“When PC Roskell bent down to pick up the items, the defendant’s leg moved towards her and she was kneed in the nose.”
 
PC Roskell had to attend Ripley hospital for treatment to her injuries.
 
She also had cancel a holiday to Gran Canaria because she claims that she no longer felt safe outside her house because of the attack. She is now receiving counselling to help her return to work.
 
Barry’s legal representative, Jiles Tylas said his client knew that her behaviour was completely unacceptable and deeply regretted the incident. 
 
He also urged the chairman to take into account that Barry had had a horrific childhood in which she was abused and abondoned.
