A convicted murderer, who is currently serving time, has been awarded thousands of pounds in damages for negligent dental care.

Michael Steele, who was involved in the notorious “Essex Boys” murder case, has been awarded £44,500 by the Home Office. Steele has been complaining of persistent severe dental pain for a period of around four years; last year, Judge Edward Bailey found the Home Office guilty of failing to provide Mr Steele with the dental treatment he required. Originally, he was awarded a sum of £66,400 but this was subsequently reduced to £44,500 in the Court of Appeal.

Michael Steele hit the headlines when he was found guilty of a triple murder involving three young men back in 1995. Steele and Jack Whomes were found guilty of killing Anthony Tucker, Craig Rolfe and Patrick Tate; the three were shot dead on a deserted farm track in what is believed to have been a gangland dispute.

Since he was imprisoned, Steele has complained about severe dental pain and tooth ache and has subsequently taken legal action against the Home Office.

Steele was given three life sentences and is currently serving time at a high security prison.
