Computer Software Aided Early Dental Caries Detection
In an article published in the International Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, RMK Engineering (India) designed special software, whereby dental caries can be identified in their early stages. By reading and interpreting pixel intensity in X-ray wavelengths, the software can display differing histograms and spectrums depending upon the health of a tooth. The amount of tooth decay can be determined by having this software interpret the collected information. Whether this technology can find clinical use for the dentist remains to be seen.
