Companies Team up to Aid Recycling

The company behind the very successful Aquafresh toothpaste and toothbrushes, GlaxoSmithKline, have shown their enthusiasm for recycling by teaming up with upcycling company, TerraCycle UK.

The coming together well help Aquafresh and GlaxoSmithKline launch their new Aquafresh oral care brigade, a recycling fundraiser scheme that aims at increasing the awareness of recycling in schools, specifically the collecting, recycling and upcycling of old toothpaste tubes and toothbrushes to be remade into other products.

As well as fighting to help save the planet, GlaxoSmithKline has vowed to donate 2p to a charity of the school’s choice for every recyclable product a pupil of the school brings in.

While the emphasis is on recycling, during the time that the company will be running the fundraising activity, GlaxoSmithKline will also be trying to boost awareness of oral health to kids with advice and tips on good dental hygiene through the means of education materials.

As well as schools (although only primary schools) the fundraising brigade scheme is available to other youth groups and organisations such as youth centres, cubs, scouts and guides. The brigade is being run across all of the UK and you can get involved by signing up on the TerraCycle UK website located at www.terracycle.co.uk

GlaxoSmithKline and Aquafresh are greatly enthusiastic about increasing the awareness of both dental hygiene and protecting the environment with recycling and believe the earlier we start the better, as Rachel Deans, the director of the Aquafresh brand explains, “The scheme provides a perfect fit for the family friendly Aquafresh brand –which markets both adult and children’s products- engaging primary school students (and their parents!) in a hands on way to get involved in protecting our planet by recycling and reusing.”

“By encouraging good eco-habits at a young age, we can instil a lifelong drive to be more sustainable and responsible and by using familiar packaging like toothpaste tubes and toothbrushes, children can more easily understand the results of their actions.”

The scheme is likely to be a big hit and both GlaxoSmithKline and TerraCycle UK are very excited about the potential success of the Brigade.
