Reports suggest that up to twenty companies are preparing to bid for AstraZeneca’s medical and dental unit, Astra Tech.

The Anglo-Swedish company has reportedly sent out memorandums to a number of companies, including private investment firms, with a view to receiving primary bids in March. The shortlist of companies has been reduced after an initial screening process.

Last month company chief executive, David Brennan refused to go into detail about the sale but rumours are circling about a potential sale figure of 2 billion dollars.

AstraTech is based in Sweden and currently employs more than 2,000 people; last year the company generated 535 million dollars, an increase of 6 percent from the previous year.
