A classic pair of men’s shoes has undergone a sinister makeover in preparation for Halloween, after arty pair Mariana Fantich and Dominic Young added more than 1,000 plastic teeth to the Savile Row Oxford shoes.

Fantich and Young handcrafted the shoes as part of their art line, Apex Predator; other pieces include a suit made from human hair, dentures and glass eyes.

The size 15 classic Oxford shoes have been adorned with 1,050 plastic teeth, which mimic human teeth perfectly; the teeth are arranged in rows across the soles of the shoes, with a show-stopping trim around the front and sides of the shoes, which features gold teeth.

Mariana Fantich and Dominic Young claim that their art line “addresses parallels between social evolution and evolution in the natural world.” Fantich and Young described the shoes as “predators with no predators”, adding that they “reside at the top of the food chain.”

The unique shoes are for exhibition only and will not be sold. The shoes have received a mixed reaction from observers and commentators, with many embracing the interesting concept without warming to the actual aesthetic of the teeth.
