Cigna UK Launches New Dental Policy

Health insurance provider Cigna UK has launched a new dental policy to prevent shortfalls. The new plan covers the entire cost of treatment when patients agree to visit a participating dental practice.

The ‘full cover’ policy guarantees that policy holders will not be left with outstanding costs after treatment. The policy is the first in the UK and it comes as a free extra for policy holders with Level 3 or Level 4 Dentaplan cover.

The policy means that patients can rest assured that the total cost of treatment will be covered by the insurance company. Level 4 policy holders are also entitled to a 20 per cent discount on treatments that are not covered by the insurance policy; this usually includes cosmetic dental treatments.

The full cover policy covers patients when they choose to have treatment with a participating dentist; currently, there are 22 practices in London and there are plans to expand the scheme into the Home Counties in the near future.

Cigna has joined forces with Munroe Sutton, the UK affiliate of American marketing firm, Careington International Corporation, to get more practices involved in the scheme. Munroe Sutton will also be involved in negotiating treatment rates with dentists.

Customers who are interested in opting into the scheme can find a full list of participating dentists on the Internet; there is also a free telephone helpline.

Kirsty Jagielko, head of product management at Cigna UK, said that the policy aims to make it simpler and more convenient for patients and it also means that patients have peace of mind that their dental treatment costs are taken care of. Commercial director, Louisa Bell, said that research suggests that patients are not opposed to moving dental practice so this should not be an issue for those wishing to join the scheme.
