Chippenham Dental Trio to Raise Funds for Uganda Charity Trip

Sample News Big

A dental trio from Chippenham is raising money for a charity trip to Uganda in the autumn. Dental nurses Trudi Maidment and Alex Kettlety and hygienist Claire Hart-Ramsey will be travelling to Africa in September as part of a project run by Dentaid.

The trio are hoping to raise a total of £6,000 to pay for the trip, which will last for two weeks. Trudi came up with the idea of doing something to raise money for a good cause and after doing some research online, she came across Dentaid’s international projects and was keen to get some of the other team members from the High Street Dental Practice involved. After contacting the charity and having a meeting about the trip, the trio decided to take the plunge and have been working hard to raise money ever since.

As part of their two-week trip, the team will be visiting remote communities and providing pain relief and basic treatments. Using the Dentaid box, a portable dental surgery, the trio will be able to set up temporary clinics. For most people, this will be the first time they have seen a dental professional and the trip is expecting standards of oral health to be poor with environments being different to their day to day workplace at home in the UK.

The determined fundraisers have already completed the Bath Mud Run and are currently training to take on the Corsham 10K run in April. They will also be hosting an 80’s night at the Consti Club in Chippenham on the 23rd April.
