Children Urged To Brush Their Teeth Gangnam Style

A dental expert and an Ivor Novello award nominee have teamed up to produce a winning formula for teeth cleaning. Jim Williams, from the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, has joined forces with Tina Tanna, a dental expert, in encouraging children to brush along to record-breaking song, Gangnam Style.

Jim Williams has identified the hit as a perfect song to accompany teeth brushing due to the number of bars. Williams found that songs with eight bars followed by two sets of four bars are best for brushing and made a list of songs with this formula, in which Psy’s Gangnam Style topped the list.

The song recently became the most watched video on YouTube, beating Rihanna and Gotye with over one billion views.

Tina Tanna, who worked with Aquafresh to create the brushing formula, said children should brush at least 35 times on each side of their mouth, using seven different strokes to promote good oral health.

Lesley Stonier, senior brand manager for Aquafresh, said the new brushing formula will encourage children to brush their teeth thoroughly. Stonier added that parents often struggle to get their children to brush their teeth and that this new formula would help to make teeth cleaning more fun for children and less stressful for their parents.

Music has been identified as an effective way of encouraging children to brush their teeth for the recommended time. However, this system goes further and encourages children to brush using the proper technique to help achieve optimum cleaning.
