England’s chief dental officer, Barry Cockcroft, has opened a new dental practice in Merseyside.

The government’s senior dental adviser visited the newest partnership in Merseyside to get a glimpse of how Knowsley’s new Health and Wellbeing centre is helping local people. Origins Dental Surgery has opened at the Whiston Primary Care Resource Centre and is the brainchild of a former GP and a dentist. Dr Ravi Gollapudi, principal dentist of the practice teamed up with Dr Sudhaker Khandavalli, a former GP, to identify the needs of local people and open a practice which caters specifically for residents.

The practice received funding from the Dental Access programme, which is run by the Department of Health and local people now have the opportunity to access a comprehensive range of primary care services in the heart of their community.

Barry Cockcroft said that he was always interested in seeing new initiatives which have been funded and supported by the government in order to improve access to dental services. He added that he was delighted to be given the opportunity to see first-hand how Knowsley Health and Wellbeing is benefiting people in the community.

Sue Drew, Knowsley Director of Public Health, said that everyone at Knowsley Health and Wellbeing is committed to providing excellent services to local people.
