A dental nurse from Cheltenham is flying high at the top of the leaderboard at the Turkish Open.

Charlotte Ellis, who is 26 years old, shares the lead with four competitors after the first round of the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open in Antalya. Ellis is currently on the same score as fellow English golfer, Florentyna Parker and Pernilla Lindberg, from Sweden, Dutch golfer Christel Boeljon and Diana Luna from Italy.

Ellis qualified for the tournament through the European Tour qualifying school in January when she was still an amateur.

Ellis rose to the top of the board after holing four birdies over the last nine holes and holding par at the 18th.

The 26 year old shares her time between working as a part-time dental nurse and pursuing her passion for golf. She insisted on keeping her career options open and training as a dental nurse in case her gold career does not work out, although for now, all seems to be going very well. Ellis’ father, a dentist from Cheltenham, said earlier in the year when his daughter first qualified for the tour, that he was fully supportive of both her careers.
