A Netherton dental practice is hosting a charity football match in memory of their receptionist who died suddenly in August.

Staff members and patients were devastated when they heard the news that receptionist, Audrey Birch, had died of a heart attack in her sleep at the age of 52. Audrey had worked at Bhandal Dental Practice since she left school at the age of 16 years old and was hugely popular with patients and colleagues.

The charity match will take place at the War Memorial Athletic Ground on High Street, Amblecote, near Stourbridge on Sunday 24th November. The practice team will be taking on Erdington Judo Club and the proceeds of the match will be donated to the Dudley Kidney Patients’ Association.

Audrey was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of seven years old and suffered kidney failure and a heart attack four years ago; since then, she has been undergoing self-dialysis every day, but soldiered on and continued to work.

Marie Fowlie, a colleague from the practice, said that Audrey worked hard and never complained about her health concerns; she added that Audrey was very popular around the practice and she is missed by the patients and staff. Marie said that the news of her passing had been a terrible shock and Audrey is a huge loss to the practice.

During her 36 years at the practice, Audrey also spent some time working as a dental nurse.

The match starts at 1pm and tickets are available for £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.
