Chapel dental practice gets the green light

Plans to change a disused chapel in Wantage into a dental practice have been given the green light, despite public outcry.

Local people were hoping the chapel would be converted into a performing arts centre for the community; however, building permission for the new dental surgery has now been granted by the Vale of White Horse District Council.

Dental firm, Rodericks, is set to buy the property and the new surgery will open in February next year. Director, Carlos Clark, claimed the company would invest a great deal of money in the chapel and the practice would be restored sympathetically. Mr Clark said it was a shame that nobody was using the chapel and vowed to impress local residents with the refurbishment.

Wantage businessman, Andrew Burford, put forward the idea to turn the chapel into a community arts centre; however, he claimed that he was pleased the community would now benefit from an NHS surgery. Local MP Ed Vaizey also welcomed the news, despite saying that he was a little sad that the building was not being used for a community project.
