Changes Afoot As Stornoway Bids Farewell To Two Dentists

Sample News Big

Changes are afoot in the Western Isles, as Stornoway bids a fond farewell to two dentists. Kenneth MacDonald is retiring after more than 30 years, while Peter Hobson is moving over to the mainland after six years in Stornoway.

The dentists will be downing their drills at the Western Isles Dental Centre on the 19th September and the health board is now looking for locum dentists to treat their patients until a new contract has been awarded by NHS Western Isles. The dentists worked independently but were contracted by NHS Western Isles and this contract is now available to other dentists who are interested in establishing a new independent practice.

Mr MacDonald is leaving the practice after more than 30 years and will be sadly missed by colleagues and patients. He has dedicated more than three decades to caring for the island’s residents and has treated many families, often caring for numerous different generations. Mr Hobson is preparing to move back to the mainland after six years at the Stornoway clinic and is looking forward to taking on a new challenge. Both dentists have informed all patients of the arrangements.

The health board is currently sorting future arrangements, but patients can continue to access urgent dental care by calling the Dental Centre as normal in working hours and on 111 out of hours.
