Celebrate President’s Day in a dental museum

The National Museum of Dentistry has invited people to come and celebrate President’s Day with them.

The museum has a whole exhibit dedicated to George Washington and dispels rumours that he had wooden dentures.

Dr Scott Swank, museum curator, believes that the Washington wooden-teeth myth came about as ivory, what the dentures were actually made from, stains after years of eating and drinking.

On display in the gallery are the dentures themselves, as well as special forceps made to remove Washington’s teeth on the Revolutionary War battlefield and portraits which show how tooth loss affected Washington’s appearance.

If you would like to marvel at teeth facts about George Washington, sing along to retro toothpaste TV ads, and discover amazing interactive exhibitions about the power of the perfect smile visit the museum on President’s Day.

The museum is open on both Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February 2009 for President’s Day weekend and attendees that dress in red, white and blue get a dollar off admission.
