A teenager from Caterham was left with severe dental injuries after a car crashed into her while she was walking to a Halloween party in October.

Tiffany Garcia, who was 17 at the time of the incident, suffered extensive injuries after she was knocked over when a car driven by Timothy Killick ploughed into her on Westway; the car hit her before crashing into a shop window.

The case was presented at Guildford Crown Court this week and 40 year old Killick, of Vernon Drive, Caterham, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving; he had previously denied the charge, but changed his plea on the day the trial began.

The court heard how Mr Killick, a father of one, had been driving at between 52 and 60 mph in a 30 mph zone at the time of the crash. Killick was sentenced to 21 months in jail and banned from driving for six years; he will have to sit another driving test after this period of time.

Miss Garcia said that she was relieved that the case was over, but added that she has a lifelong sentence due to the effects of the crash; she suffered severe bruising and a broken nose and she also lost four teeth and was left incredibly shaken. The 18 year old said that she struggled to go out of the house for a long period of time after the incident and had been left with very little confidence after losing four of her teeth; she will need dental implant treatment, further treatment on her nose and a bone graft procedure to repair her jaw. She also said that she had given up hope of achieving her career dreams of becoming a beautician.

Tiffany’s mother, Stephanie, was at home when she heard the crash about 100 yards from the house; she said she went out to find her daughter covered in blood and feared the worst. She said that the sentence should have been longer and was angered by the fact that Mr Killick had not even apologised for his actions during the trial.
