Carlisle Woman Uses Dental Inspiration To Set Up New Keepsake Business

Sample News Big

A woman from Carlisle has set up a new business creating custom-made keepsakes after taking inspiration from the world of dentistry.

Danielle Hammond set up Keepsakes by Danielle last summer and is hoping her custom-made gifts will prove a success. The company uses alginate, the material employed by dentists in creating impressions of teeth, to create casts and ornaments of baby’s hands and feet, people’s hands, pregnancy bumps and pet’s paws. The idea is not unique but the nearest competitor is located in Cornwall, so Danielle is hoping to capture the Northern market.

The business is run by Danielle and her partner, Mark Bowes, from their home. Danielle said the company creates personal, unique gifts and keepsakes that provide a tangible memento of special events, people and pets that are important to them. There are moulding kits available, but the quality is often poor.

Alginate sets quickly but moulds every contour and shape, meaning the final representation is extremely accurate. Prices start from £35 and the youngest customer has been a two-week old baby. Danielle visits clients at their homes and deliver the finished product by hand.

Danielle decided to start up the business last year after having her daughter, Ella. She created a cast of her hands and soon friends and family members were asking for their own. Danielle also works as a make-up artist and beauty therapist, but she is hoping to run the business full-time and eventually open a shop.
