Representatives from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board have confirmed that a new NHS dental practice will open later this year.

The new surgery will be located in Maes-y-Coed in Cardiff and will provide services for residents in Rhiwbina, Llanishen and Birchgrove.

This news will be welcomed by local patients, who were anxious about the future of dental services in the area following the conversion of the practice in Heol-y-Deri to a private surgery. The termination of NHS services in April left around 5,000 people needing to make alternative arrangements.

Members of the board have said that former patients of Rhiwbina Dental Surgery in Heol-y-Deri will be given priority when registering for the new Cardiff practice. The board will send out letters to patients, detailing how to register with the new practice in the next few weeks.

The new practice, which is expected to open in November, will be run by Dr Osian and Dr Anna Davies, both of whom graduated from Cardiff University’s School of Dentistry. Dr Osian Davies said that the duo was aiming to provide high-quality dental care in a friendly, relaxing setting. The goal is for patients to feel comfotable, as well as providing them with the highest possible standards of dental care. The new surgery will have parking facilities and a lift will be available to the first floor. Opening hours will be made available in the coming weeks.
