Burnley dentist hosts ‘toothbrush amnesty’

A Burnley dentist is hosting a ‘toothbrush amnesty’ in a bid to improve standards of oral health in the area.

Chris Wood, from the Standish Street Dental Practice, is inviting people to bring their old toothbrushes and swap them for new ones; the event is being held to celebrate Colgate’s Oral Health Month. Oral Health Month is a national campaign, which was launched at the beginning of September; a series of events and activities have taken place over the course of the last three weeks to raise awareness of oral health and encourage people to take better care of their teeth and gums.

Chris Wood said that many people do not brush their teeth properly and most people hang onto their old toothbrush for far too long; when the bristles on the brush become worn down, the toothbrush becomes much less effective. Mr Wood advised patients to change their toothbrush every three months to ensure their toothbrush works properly.

Patients will be invited to celebrate National Oral Health Month by swapping their old toothbrush for a new one; Mr Wood hopes that patients will make the most of the opportunity and get involved with the event.
