Building work is underway at a brand new health and dental centre in South Kirby.

The new Community Health Centre, which will cost around £6.5 million, will house a dental surgery, a pharmacy, a base for health visitors and district nurses and a primary care centre.

The start of construction was marked by a turf cutting ceremony, which was attended by staff at Miller Construction, Community Ventures South Kirby and Stockingate and Little Lane GP practices.

The development is due to open in 2014, with work scheduled to finish in April. Funding for the project has been secured from the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The project has been drawn up by a host of different companies, including Miller Construction and Community Ventures South Kirby in partnership with Wakefield District NHS Primary Care Trust and Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Ian Jubb, regional managing director at Miller Construction, said that the project was very exciting and would make a huge difference to local people, allowing them to access a range of health services under the same roof.
