The initial foundations for a new dental centre in Stornoway were laid recently. In what is considered a significant project, the Dental Teach and Treat Centre will cost around four and a half million pounds and be comprised of 7 general dental surgeries and five modern training facilities.

The new centre, which will be located on the grounds on the Western Isles Hospital, will be used be the NHS Education for Scotland along with the Scottish Universities and Colleges. The aim is to maintain the enhanced dental services on the island and to also attract more dental students to the island in the future. ‘This is one of the key stages in the development of this new facility,’ stated NHS Western Isles Chief Executive Gordon Jamieson, ‘and [it] marks substantial progress over a short period of time.’
