The federal Budget has brought good news for hospitals in South Australia; the Mount Gambier and Port Lincoln hospitals will benefit from additional funding and a new public dental clinic will be constructed.

As a result of additional funding the Port Lincoln hospital will get a new dental clinic and work will be carried out to expand the theatre suite. Money invested in the Mount Gambier hospital will be used to create new cancer beds and improve palliative care and mental health services.

Dental care is a cause for concern for many people in the local area; many people are waiting for treatment and access to dental care is a real problem.

Mark Butler, the federal minister for Mental Health and Ageing, also said that 13 million dollars will be made available for health services in Wallaroo, the APY lands, Naracoorte and the Riverland. Mr Butler said that the Budget this year was tough due to spending cuts which have been introduced to reduce the government deficit; however, ministers have worked hard to deliver on promises to improve healthcare services in the area and the projects and additional funding will benefit hundreds of people.

Bruce Green, presiding member of the Port Lincoln Health Advisory Council said that the funding is a massive boost, which will benefit people in the local area. Work on the new dental clinic will begin in the near future.
