Budding Dentists Told They Can′t Go to University

Young students are having their dream of becoming dentists dashed as Universities turn to wealthy overseas students.
Universities have a closed their doors to hundreds of British students but are still looking to recruit overseas students that are stumping up a staggering £15,000 a year to study in the UK.
The UK government have put no cap on the numbers of International students that can study in Britain, yet British students are finding their access to university education limited by Institutions in cities such as Bristol, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Surrey.
David Willetts, Shadow Universities Secretary, said: “The brutal fact is that foreign students bring in much more money than British ones — that is exactly why the government needs to reform the system.
“We are going to have large numbers of British students with good A-levels who can’t get a place even while they are recruiting more from abroad than ever.”
Universities such as the University of Central London has plans to cut its intake of UK students by 600 in 2012 and replace them with overseas students, this means that top dentistry courses are being limited by institutes and UK students with dreams of participating in their chosen profession are finding it impossible to gain the necessary qualifications.
One aspiring dentist was refused entry to all of her chosen universities as they increase their intake of overseas students despite gaining 3 A’s and a B at A-level.
Student, Pathack, said: “My form tutor tried to discourage me and said it was difficult to get in, but I’ve wanted to be a dentist pretty much all my life.”
Many UK students wishing to attend University are now taking a gap year before re-applying next year.
