British Cyclist Urges Team Mates To Brush Up On Dental Hygiene

Team GB cyclist, Wendy Houvenaghel, has been using her time with fellow athletes wisely; the trained dentist has been offering oral hygiene tips and answering questions about dental problems during training camps.

Wendy, who starts her Olympic campaign on Friday, is required to undertake continued professional development (CPD) in order to remain on the General Dental Council register and she has been attending courses in the South West to complete her CPD allowance, as well as training for the Olympic Games.

Wendy’s knowledge has also come in very handy for her fellow athletes, who have been able to ask her about dental problems. Wendy said that a few of her team mates have experienced pain as a result of their wisdom teeth or decay and she has been able to give them advice and also talk to them about oral hygiene to prevent further problems.

Wendy will be hoping to build on the success of Team GB’s cycling golden boy, Bradley Wiggins, when she steps into the velodrome on Friday.

The 38 year old, who won a medal in Beijing four years ago, has confirmed that she will be concentrating on dentistry as a full-time career once she retires from cycling.
