Bridlington man considers going to Turkey for dental treatment due to appointment shortages

A man from Bridlington, East Yorkshire, is considering going to Turkey for dental treatment after his local practice stopped providing NHS dental services.

David Moore has tried to join several practices since Bupa Dental closed at the end of November, but he has been unable to find any clinics taking on new NHS adult patients. He is now considering going abroad to see a dentist because he can’t get an appointment anywhere. Even private practices have a waiting list, he added, describing the situation as “ridiculous.”

Speaking to the BBC, David said that there is a shortage of dentists in Bridlington, and suggested that the situation is going to get worse because there are new houses popping up everywhere with no local services to support new residents.

Following the closure of Bupa Dental, there are only three dental practices offering NHS services in Bridlington: Mydentist, the Bridlington Dental Studio and Neil Sinclair. These practices are already full and none of them are accepting new NHS patients.

Fellow Bridlington resident, Pat Reynolds, said that she was now travelling to Leeds to see a dentist because she couldn’t find a practice any closer to home. She has been looking for a dentist since moving to the area three years ago and said that many people she knows are doing the same because there are no places locally. Seeing a dentist now involves a 160-mile round trip.
