The Glade in Brechin was one of four care homes in Angus to be awarded a Tayside Oral Health Award.

Members of the Angus Community Dental Team paid a visit to The Glade to break the news and present the award, which is given by NHS Tayside to try and improve oral healthcare for care home residents. The team also presented the award to St David’s in Forfar and Seaton Grove and Kendale Hall in Arbroath.

The award is a local initiative, which was developed by NHS Tayside to ensure good standards of oral healthcare in care homes. The award was adapted from the Caring for Smiles programme, which began in 2010.

Care homes are awarded the accolade in recognition of meeting ten criteria, which include good access to a dentist, daily health and dental care plans and access to suitable oral health resources.

Donna Kirk, Principal Coordinator of National Dental Strategies, said that the award was a great way of emphasising the importance of oral health and added that she was delighted that care homes in the area are participating in the scheme.
