Members of staff at a dental practice in Chepstow chased a thief, to try and reclaim two boxes containing charity money.

Dental nurse Natalie Ireland, receptionist Victoria Croft and dental surgeon, Maddy Tulett, chased a man after he took money collected for charity at the Beaufort Park Dental Surgery in Thornwell. An elderly man also joined the pursuit.

Victoria Croft said that she looked up to talk to the next patient and was confronted with a hooded man holding two collection boxes. He then quickly took off and was followed by members of staff. The three members of the dental team successfully caught up with the man but there were only a few coins left in the collection boxes.

During the chase, the elderly man who helped out fell and has probably dislocated his knee. He was taken to hospital for treatment and staff say that they have been absolutely devastated by the incident. They estimated that there was between £200 and £250 in the boxes and the money had been raised when some of the team ran the Cardiff half marathon and was going to be donated to DentAid and the Mouth Cancer Foundation.

Gwent police are now investigating the incident and anyone who has any information is advised to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 55111. Practice manager, Rachel Gidney said that it was a very unfortunate event and praised the bravery of the members of staff and the elderly man, who she wished a speedy recovery.
