A Manchester mother has slated the condition of the road outside her house because her son lost his front teeth when riding his bike.

Eleven-year-old Charlie Jerdin had been riding his BMX but was sent flying when one of its wheels hit a pothole. Both his front teeth were knocked out.

The Manchester Evening News reported that Charlie flew over his handlebars and landed face first on the road. The youngster damaged two other teeth in this accident.

He was taken to hospital but the dentist doubted he would be able to save the teeth.

The little lad was reportedly so upset that he missed his first few days at high school and, to take matters worse, his bike was so badly damaged his parents had to throw it away.

Victoria, Charlie’s mother, was understandably upset and said the incident would never have happened if the council had repaired the pothole.

She added that her son, who was not wearing a helmet when he crashed, had arrived at home covered in blood, white with shock and with his teeth in his hand.

Charlie will now have to undergo extensive surgery.

Victoria, 31, said that Charlie was frightened to go back to school because he was concerned he would be called names and reiterated that she wanted the pothole fixed because she didn’t want the same thing to happen to someone else’s child.

A Cheshire East council spokesperson said that potholes found on Barnaby Road, where Charlie fell, were too shallow to warrant immediate repair.
