High street chemist, Boots, has launched a new initiative to help families that are struggling to afford oral hygiene products.

The Ask for Jesse campaign enables those who are struggling to access free oral care products for children. By simply ‘asking for Jesse’ at Boots stores, parents and carers will be able to benefit from free supplies.

The aim of the scheme is to provide a discreet means of asking for support. Boots is working in partnership with The Hygiene Bank to deliver the programme.

The initiative aims to help children aged between three and five years old. The Hygiene Bank is a community programme, which collects and distributes household and hygiene products to vulnerable families across the UK.

Boots has installed donation points at over 400 stores. Since last July, more than 620,000 products have been collected.

Studies suggest that tooth decay is the leading cause of hospital admissions among children in the UK and there are fears that rates could get worse as the cost of living increases and dental teams continue to tackle treatment backlogs.

Schemes like the new Ask for Jesse initiative can make a huge difference to families that find it difficult to afford to buy hygiene and personal care essentials. Many people are struggling to cover costs, with fuel, energy bills and groceries all going up and national insurance payments set to increase.
