Ten thousand new patients will now be able to receive NHS dental treatment thanks to three practices opening in Derby.

Seven dentists will be working at the practices to serve patients in Darley Abbey, Chaddesden, Spondon, and the city as part of a new £300,000 investment by the NHS.

Two of the clinics have already opened and the third will begin treating people in 2010.

Val Wynn, Derby City NHS’s assistant director of commissioning, said that the service had invested a considerable amount to set up the practices.

Curzon Street-based Central Dental Practice, has been extended as part of the investment allowing it to serve around 2,000 new patients.

Revive Dental Practice opened on Monday 23 November 2009 at the Revive Healthy Living Centre, in Chaddesden.

Derby House Dental Practice, Green Lane, will start treating patients in the new year.

Prem Singh, NHS Derby City chief exec, said that the improvements to NHS dentistry were great for local people as it would increase access to clinics which were nearer to be peoples homes.

He claimed that the improvements were made on the basis of feedback from patients and targeted deprived areas.
